Chief of the Defence Staff Remembrance Day Message

Statement / November 9, 2017

Great celebrations, such as this year’s 150th anniversary of Confederation, give us a chance to take stock of all that we have as Canadians. In many ways, we are the envy of other nations, and that is our blessing. But the legacy of our military achievements and inheritance is raised upon the sacrifices of our fellow citizens, and it is to them that I would like you to turn your attention.

There is no victory without sacrifice, and there is no sacrifice without tragedy. Please, remember our fallen. Remember our wounded. And remember those whose lives were forever changed when fate took their loved ones from their arms.

Lest we forget.

Jonathan H. Vance
General
Chief of the Defence Staff
