MGen (ret’d) Pierre Morisset, left, Colonel Commandant of CF Medical Branch and former Surgeon General, was appointed to a new, five-member scientific advisory committee that will provide expert advice to the Minister of Veterans Affairs on specific veterans’ health issues.

“I am deeply honoured to be named to this committee alongside these four esteemed health professionals,” said MGen (ret’d) Morisset. “I am eager to take on this responsibility and work towards ensuring that veterans are receiving the best and most appropriate supports and treatment.”

The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced the five committee members on 5 December 2011. The new committee will use the most up-to-date research and analysis in considering health issues that affect veterans.

The new committee will convene early in the new year and use its first meeting to establish a timetable for its work. Its first study will be on depleted uranium.
